(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ Columbia, MO - In an effort to address ongoing issues in the downtown area, the City of Columbia and Columbia Police Department have announced a test of designated rideshare pickup locations this weekend. The goal of this pilot program is to improve traffic flow and increase safety for downtown patrons.
The decision to implement these designated pickup locations comes after reports of people walking into roadways and rideshare drivers blocking traffic. This has caused confusion and frustration for both drivers and pedestrians in the busy downtown area.
The rideshare apps have been notified of the test and will be directing drivers and riders to the designated pickup locations. These stands will be located west to the 9th Street stand, east to the Waugh Street stand, north to the 10th street stand, and south to the Elm Street stand.

It is important to note that these designated pickup locations are only for pickups and not drop-offs. Rideshares outside of this designated downtown area will not be required to use these stands.
A map outlining the affected downtown area can be found in the attached image. The City of Columbia emphasizes that this is a test and not a permanent policy. They will evaluate its effectiveness in addressing current issues before making any further decisions.
