Animal Care and Control's goal is to protect the health and safety of residents and companion animals in the city. A major part of that goal relies on the Animal Shelter team and facility. Our current facility at 2801 Clark Avenue requires repairs to maintain the Missouri Department of Agriculture's Animal Care Facility Act standards.

For the required repairs to occur, the Department of Health needs to reduce the population of animals currently housed at the 2801 Clark Street Animal Shelter. The Animal Care and Control team is adjusting its intake protocol to support this effort. Until the repairs are completed, ACC officers will use intake diversion strategies such as providing resources to help keep pets at home, enhanced reunification strategies, and rehoming a pet in place of surrendering a pet to the shelter. We anticipate this protocol lasting through the end of the year.

The Department of Health appreciates the patience and understanding of City residents while these much-needed repairs are made. If you can donate pet supplies, volunteer time at the shelter, or even foster a pet, please contact CARE STL (info@icarestl.org or 314-696-2444).
