FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Around 4 a.m. May 18, the Springfield Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 1300 block of West Tampa Avenue with reports of multiple residents possibly still inside the home. Firefighters arrived to find the home with heavy smoke and fire conditions. Firefighters located one victim still inside the home during search-and-rescue operations. Another individual self-extricated from the home prior to firefighters' arrival. Both individuals were provided care by firefighters and EMS on scene and were taken to Mercy Hospital. One individual is listed in critical condition and the other is in stable condition.

The fire remains under investigation by the Bureau of Fire Prevention. Additional information will be released as soon as it is available.
