~ The Springfield Police Department (SPD) has released its Quarterly Public Safety Report (QPSR) on Wednesday, emphasizing the importance of open data sharing. As one of 130 law enforcement agencies participating in The Police Foundation's Police Data Initiative (PDI), SPD is committed to sharing data with other agencies and making it easily accessible to the public through their website.

Through PDI, SPD shares a wide range of data on their website, including hate crime statistics, officer-involved shooting incidents, and traffic-related information. In addition, the department has revamped their front page sidebar to feature safety tips. This quarter's focus is on motorcycle safety, providing tips for both motorcycle riders and other drivers on the road.

The QPSR also includes crime statistics for the first quarter of 2019 in Springfield. According to the report, there was an overall increase in crime by 2 percent compared to the same time frame in 2018. Crimes against persons saw a significant increase of 28 percent while crimes against property decreased by three percent.
