Springfield, Mo. ~ In an effort to attract more applicants to the Springfield Police Department, a new grooming standard has been implemented as of January 1st. The department has expanded its guidelines to allow well-groomed beards for police officers, as recommended by current officers and approved by Chief Paul Williams.

The change, which is reflected in Standard Operating Guideline 304.6 for Police Uniforms and Appearance Regulations, was driven by a significant interest within the department. Chief Williams stated that the new policy is a reflection of their commitment to evolving grooming standards while still maintaining professionalism.

According to Chief Williams, this change will help the department attract a wider range of qualified applicants. It also allows officers to express their individuality while upholding the values of pride and discipline in serving Springfield.
