The Springfield-Greene County Health Department (SGCHD) is excited to announce its reaccreditation through the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB).
About PHAB accreditation
PHAB's national accreditation program, which is supported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, ensures local public health agencies (LPHAs) are continually improving and advancing the well-being of the populations they serve.
SGCHD's reaccreditation, awarded after a rigorous review process throughout 2023 and 2024, demonstrates that the department meets or exceeds the highest standards of public health practice.
"Reaccreditation affirms our dedication to excellence in serving the people of Springfield and Greene County," said Katie Towns, Director of Health. "It's a recognition of the hard work and heart our team brings to protecting public health every day."
Accreditation is a high achievement—SGCHD is one of seven accredited LPHAs in Missouri, among just 400 across the country.

Accreditation status is active for five years, after which health departments can undergo the reaccreditation process. SGCHD first received PHAB accreditation in 2018.
SGCHD's commitment to community
As a PHAB-accredited health department, SGCHD highlights its commitment to the people we serve. Health Department staff members use the valuable feedback received during the accreditation process on a regular basis to better programs, services, resources and partnerships.
Since initial accreditation, SGCHD has continued to focus on improvement, innovation and collaboration with community partners to respond to evolving public health challenges.
National Public Health Week
The Health Department announces its reaccreditation status during National Public Health Week (April 7-13), a time dedicated to recognizing the vital work of public health professionals and the importance of strong public health systems.
