~ Springfield City Council has issued a reminder to residents in Zone 3 to prepare for a Public Works pickup sweep scheduled for August 18-22. In order to facilitate the process, residents are asked to move any storm debris to the curb by 7 a.m. on Monday, August 18.
According to Springfield Public Works, since the debris sweeps began on August 11, approximately 65% of debris piles have been removed from Zone 1, totaling over 2,240 cubic yards. Superintendent of Streets Colten Harris expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far but noted that there is still more work to be done in Zone 1. He stated that several crews will remain in the area next week to complete the sweep while others will move on to Council Zone 3 as planned.
Zone 3 was less impacted by the spring storms compared to other areas and it is expected that the sweep will be completed within the scheduled week. Residents are reminded that they do not need to register for debris pickup and are simply asked to ensure that only organic debris is placed at the streetside without blocking sidewalks, driveways or drainage ditches.

The neighborhood debris sweeps will continue according to a tentative schedule with Zone 1 being completed by August 22, followed by Zone 3 from August 18-22, Zone 2 from August 25-29 and finally Zone 4 from September 1-5. In addition, a City-contracted tree company is currently addressing properties with larger trees and debris and may assist with curbside pickup in certain areas. This service is provided free of charge to citizens. Any questions or concerns can be directed to 864-1010.
It is important to note that only natural and organic vegetative debris such as limbs, branches, and brush will be collected. No registration is required for pickup and debris should be placed at the curb or nearest accessible location without blocking sidewalks, driveways or drainage ditches. All debris must be ready by 7 a.m. on the first day of their City Council Zone's scheduled pickup week.
This effort is part of the City's ongoing response to the April 29 and June 29 storms which caused significant damage to trees and infrastructure throughout Springfield. The City Council urges residents to cooperate with the debris pickup process in order to ensure a timely and efficient cleanup of affected areas.
