~ The City of Springfield is hosting an interactive public engagement session on November 14th at the Springfield Art Museum as part of the implementation of their Comprehensive Plan, Forward SGF. Joe Minicozzi, AICP, principal of Asheville, North Carolina-based Urban3, will be presenting "The Economics of Community Design".
Minicozzi is an urban planner who specializes in land use, urban design and economics. He was the primary administrator of the Form-Based Code for downtown West Palm Beach, Florida and is a founding member of the Asheville Design Center. His talk will focus on sustainable development policies and the economics of community development. Urban3 is partnering with Multistudio to develop new city codes for Springfield.

Randall Whitman, principal planner for the City of Springfield said that Minicozzi's presentation will highlight Urban3's analysis of public and private investment returns in relation to cost and revenues as they relate to types of development Springfield may want to support in the future. It will also help illustrate and further discussion on the value of implementing over 200 recommendations from Forward SGF related to community design and understanding how land use and zoning affect a city's economic health.
