~ As the seventh annual Stop the Violence Conference approaches, community members are encouraged to register for the virtual event taking place on Tuesday, Oct. 5th from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The conference, which aims to address interpersonal violence and promote a safer community for all, will provide education and tools for attendees. Continuing education credit will be available for professionals such as Counselors, Social Workers, Law Enforcement, and Attorneys seeking CEUs. However, the conference is open to anyone who wants to learn more about ending the cycle of violence.

Thanks to this year's sponsors, Abilities First and the Missouri State University Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice, the event is free of cost. Interested individuals can register on the conference's website and will receive a Zoom link on the morning of the event. Closed captioning and an interpreter for the deaf community will also be provided.

The conference will feature two keynote speaker sessions. The first session will be led by Jessica Naslund and Chris Worth and will focus on building capacity to work with survivors of all abilities. This session is geared towards mental health professionals but is applicable to all attendees and offers one hour of continuing education credit.

The second session will be led by Wambui Bahati and will discuss the importance of building professionals' capacity to work with all people. Attendees can expect to learn about preventing funneling individuals with disabilities or mental health issues into programs designed for children or other populations. This session also offers one hour of continuing education credit.

Other topics that will be covered during the conference include exploitation of elderly individuals and people with disabilities from a legal perspective, sex trafficking, abuse of children with disabilities, and long-term effects of relationship abuse and violence.
