~ Springfield Public Works has announced that the storm debris pickup sweeps in Council Zones 2 and 4 will continue through the month of October. According to Assistant Director Eric Claussen, the cleanup efforts in Zone 3 are almost complete, with only a few residences left to be swept.
Since the debris pickup sweeps began on August 11th, more than 31,131 cubic yards of storm debris have been removed from Springfield neighborhoods. To put this into perspective, this amount of debris would fill approximately three football fields, stacked five feet high.
"We're estimating we're nearly 70% done with debris pickup across the city," says Claussen. "We are hopeful that the remaining zones will progress quickly and anticipate being fully complete with the city-wide debris sweep by the end of October."
Residents in Zones 1 and 3 who still have storm debris at their curbside since their zone deadlines should call the Citizen Resource Center at 864-1010 to report it. To find out which City Council Zone they live in, residents can visit https://cosmo.maps.arcgis.com/apps/InformationL....

Debris pickup in Zone 1 is substantially complete and residents with storm debris piles at their curbside since August 11th should call the Citizen Resource Center to report it. Similarly, debris pickup in Zone 3 is also substantially complete and residents with storm debris piles at their curbside since August 18th should call the Citizen Resource Center to report it.
Currently, pickup in Zone 2 is being conducted by the City's tree management contractor and approximately 49% of this zone has been addressed so far. Public Works will be dedicating additional crews to cleanup efforts in this zone starting next week. In Zone 4, approximately 28% of the debris has been picked up and Public Works will be focusing on this zone next week in an effort to speed up progress.
Residents are reminded that no registration is needed for pickup and they should ensure that the debris placed at the curb is not blocking sidewalks, driveways, or drainage ditches. Only natural/organic vegetative debris such as limbs, branches, and brush will be collected. Mulched or bagged debris and non-organic items will not be removed. It is important to note that pickup is intended for storm debris only and residents are asked to avoid adding general yard waste to their piles once they are at the curb as this will slow down progress.

In addition, a City-contracted tree company is currently addressing properties with larger trees and debris and assisting with curbside pickup in certain areas. This service is provided to citizens free of charge. If residents have any questions or concerns, they can call 864-1010.
This ongoing effort by the City is in response to the April 29th and June 29th storms which caused significant tree damage and infrastructure impacts across Springfield. The City remains committed to completing the cleanup process as quickly and efficiently as possible for the safety and well-being of its residents.
