~ Springfield Police have identified the victim of a fatal traffic accident that occurred on November 19, 2020. According to a press release from the department, officers responded to a crash involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck at the intersection of Kansas Exp. and Catalpa around 5:00 p.m.
The motorcycle rider, identified as 39-year-old James A. Gainey from Marionville, MO, was traveling northbound on Kansas Exp. when he struck the rear of a pickup truck that was slowing in traffic. Despite medical personnel responding to the scene, Gainey succumbed to his injuries.

After several attempts, investigators were able to locate and notify Gainey's next of kin. The department's Traffic Unit is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, but impairment is not suspected to be a factor.
This tragic incident marks the 21st fatality motor vehicle crash and the 23rd total crash-related death in Springfield for 2020. The Springfield Police Department urges all drivers to exercise caution and follow traffic laws to prevent further tragedies on the road.
