~ Springfield Police are currently investigating a homicide that occurred on December 18, 2020, at approximately 2:40 p.m. According to a 911 caller, a subject had been shot at 2330 N. Pierce. Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered a male inside the residence who had sustained a gunshot wound. The victim, identified as 17-year-old Richard Tyler Corbin from Springfield, MO, was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The police have made next of kin notifications and have also spoken to a juvenile female who was present at the scene. The female stated that she was the one who accidentally shot Corbin. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with this incident.

Detectives are actively investigating the case and are urging anyone with information to come forward and contact the Springfield Police Department at 417-864-1810 or make an anonymous call to Crime Stoppers at 417-869-TIPS (8477).
This tragic incident marks the 26th violent death in Springfield this year. Out of these cases, seventeen have been classified as murder under the FBI's Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) rules, one as negligent manslaughter, and two were deemed justified after review by the Greene County Prosecutor. The remaining six cases are still under investigation to determine their classification.
The Springfield Police Department is committed to bringing justice for Corbin's death and ensuring the safety of its community. They urge anyone with information about this incident or any other violent crimes in Springfield to come forward and assist in their investigations.
