Springfield, Mo. ~ On April 15, 2025, tragedy struck the John B. Hughes Apartments in Springfield, Missouri. At 3:56 p.m., the Springfield Police Department received a call for a well-being check at the apartment complex located at 2100 N. Clifton Ave. Upon arrival, officers discovered the bodies of a man and woman inside one of the apartments.
The Springfield Homicide Unit was immediately called to the scene to investigate. After thorough examination, it was determined that 21-year-old Andrew Calton had shot and killed 21-year-old Katrina Dotson before taking his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Fortunately, four juveniles who were also present in the apartment were unharmed.

Both Calton and Dotson were residents of Springfield and their families have been notified of their tragic deaths. The investigation is ongoing and detectives are urging anyone with information to come forward by contacting the Springfield Police Department or making an anonymous call to Crime Stoppers.
This marks the fifth homicide investigation in Springfield for the year 2025, leaving the community shaken and mourning yet another senseless loss of life.
