~ Springfield Police Investigate In-Custody Death

On April 1, 2019, at approximately 3:34 P.M., an off-duty Springfield Police Officer working at Walmart received a report of two shoplifting suspects who had fled the store and were now at the nearby Culver's restaurant. The officer immediately requested back-up and proceeded to Culver's where he detained one of the suspects, a female.

As the officer was detaining the female suspect, the male suspect attempted to flee from the restaurant. However, two back-up officers arrived on the scene and began pursuing him on foot. One of the officers deployed his taser in an attempt to stop the suspect, but he continued to run west. Eventually, with the help of other officers, they were able to apprehend him northwest of Glenstone and Kearney intersection.
