~ Springfield, MO - On November 23, 2020, a fatal motorcycle wreck occurred at the intersection of Campbell and Madison. The Springfield Police Department received a call at 4:41 p.m. and immediately responded to the scene.

According to the initial investigation, a 2004 Honda motorcycle was traveling northbound on Campbell at a high speed when it collided with a 2019 Volkswagen SUV. The impact caused the motorcycle to also hit a utility pole on the east side of Campbell. The rider of the motorcycle, identified as 42-year-old Donald Ray Stewart from Springfield, was transported by EMS but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. His next of kin has been notified.

The Traffic Unit of the Springfield Police Department is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. Based on witness statements, it appears that speed and careless driving were contributing factors to the accident. This marks the 22nd fatality motor vehicle crash and the 24th total crash-related death in Springfield for 2020.

The police department urges all drivers to exercise caution and follow traffic laws to prevent such tragic incidents from occurring in the future.
