~ Springfield Police are currently investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred on December 29, 2020, at approximately 5:08 a.m. According to reports, officers located a suspected stolen vehicle at the Fast n' Friendly on W. Chestnut Expressway and approached the vehicle, a maroon 2012 Chrysler sedan. The driver, identified as 27-year-old Maggie Thrift from Springfield, was the only occupant of the car.

As officers attempted to make contact with Thrift, she fled in the vehicle and struck one of the officers as she drove through the parking lot. In response, three separate officers fired shots at the fleeing vehicle. The car then fled northbound on Main Street and has yet to be located.

The injured officer suffered minor injuries that did not require immediate medical attention. However, at approximately 6:45 a.m., police received a 911 call reporting a female with gunshot wounds at an address on E. Commercial Street. Officers responded to the scene and identified Thrift as the driver of the stolen vehicle.

Thrift had sustained non-life-threatening injuries from gunshot wounds and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. She was later arrested for outstanding warrants unrelated to this case and is currently in custody.

The Springfield Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division is currently handling this case and will be presenting it to the Greene County Prosecutor for review and potential charges against Thrift.

In further developments, at around 1:30 p.m., an officer located the stolen vehicle near Atlantic and Park Street. The car was towed and secured for processing as part of the ongoing investigation.
