Springfield, Mo. ~ On August 2, 2025, the Springfield Police Department took action to educate drivers about Missouri's Move Over Law. The department conducted a four-hour "Move Over or Get Pulled Over" enforcement on Kansas Expressway between Sunshine Street and Mt. Vernon Street.

During this time, officers stopped 20 vehicles and issued 10 citations for traffic violations. One driver was also arrested for driving while intoxicated. According to Lt. Steve Schwind, commander of the department's Traffic Unit, failing to move over for emergency vehicles can have serious consequences. "When drivers fail to move over for emergency vehicles, they put lives at risk including their own," Schwind stated.

The purpose of this enforcement effort was not just to issue citations, but also to ensure the safety of all drivers on the road. "It's about making sure everyone gets safely home," Schwind emphasized. He also reminded drivers that when they see emergency lights activated on the side of the road, it is important to move over and slow down.
