Springfield, Mo. ~ At approximately 11:57 a.m. on January 24, 2025, officers from the Springfield Police Department were called to the intersection of Kearney Street and Jefferson Avenue for a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian. According to reports, Duron Kinsey-Starks, 28, of Ozark, was driving westbound on Kearney Street in a 1995 Geo Prizm when he struck Everett Fleming, 44, of Winfield, Kansas. Fleming had stepped into the road while attempting to cross from north to south and was not using a marked crosswalk.
Tragically, Fleming did not survive the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin has been notified. The Springfield Police Department is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and is asking anyone with information to come forward by contacting them at 417-864-1810 or through the tips hotline at 417-869-TIPS.
This incident marks Springfield's first traffic fatality of the year 2025.
