FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Springfield Police responded to the area of West Bypass and Grand on May 10, 2022, at 5:28 p.m., regarding a motor vehicle crash involving a pickup truck and a motorcycle.
The initial investigation indicated a black 2022 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was northbound in the right, outside lane of West Bypass. A gray 2007 Chevrolet Silverado pickup was southbound on West Bypass and turned left to go eastbound on Grand. The Chevy Silverado crossed the motorcycle's path, resulting in a collision. The driver of the Harley-Davidson motorcycle died at the scene.

The motorcycle driver was identified as Steven N. Janssen, a 20-year-old male from Edwardsville, Illinois. Janssen's family has been notified.
The driver of the Chevy Silverado was identified as Daniel J. Butts, a 45-year-old male from Springfield. Butts was arrested for DWI and booked into the Greene County Jail.
Officers with the department's Traffic Section are continuing to investigate the circumstances involved in the crash and are asking anyone who has additional information to contact the Springfield Police Department at 417-864-1810.
This is the sixth fatal motor vehicle crash in Springfield in 2022.
