~ Springfield Environmental Services is celebrating America Recycles Day 2023 on Wednesday, Nov. 15 by offering customer appreciation giveaways at all three of the City's recycling drop-off locations. From 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., recyclers can choose from facility stickers, air fresheners, reusable dish cloths and other giveaways at the Lone Pine Recycling Center (3020 S. Lone Pine Ave.), Franklin Avenue Recycling Center (731 N. Franklin Ave.) and Yardwaste Recycling Center (3790 S. Farm Road 119) while supplies last. Refreshments will also be available for those who participate in the event.
America Recycles Day is a program of Keep America Beautiful that is dedicated to promoting and celebrating recycling in the United States every year on or around Nov. 15th with local events held throughout the country to celebrate and learn more about recycling programs. Residents are encouraged to visit springfieldmo.gov/recycling to learn more about recycling programs and resources in Springfield.

As a follow-up to America Recycles Day events, Springfield Environmental Services will host a free "EnviroFlick" movie screening of "The Biggest Little Farm" at 7 – 9 p.m. at the Moxie Cinema (305 S. Campbell Avenue). The movie follows John Chester, his wife Molly and their dog Todd as they attempt to turn 200 acres of land outside Los Angeles into a sustainable farm while documenting their quest to work in harmony with the land as well as ward off pests, predators and wildfires to protect their crops and animals. The movie screening will be followed by a community panel discussion featuring representatives from several local food resource organizations; it is rated PG and more information can be found at biggestlittlefarmmovie.com
