~ Springfield Mayor Ken McClure was recognized for his outstanding contributions to the Missouri Municipal League (MML) and the cities of Missouri as he received the Distinguished Service Award on Tuesday. The award, presented by the MML, honors a current or former Missouri municipal official who has shown exceptional dedication and leadership in their role.
According to Richard Sheets, Director of the Missouri Municipal League, Mayor McClure was chosen for this prestigious award due to his enthusiasm, dedication, and outstanding leadership. With an impressive history of public service and a strong focus on municipal issues, Mayor McClure has proven himself to be a valuable asset to the community.
Mayor McClure's political career began in April 2015 when he was elected to serve as General Council Seat D. He then went on to be reelected in 2017, 2019, 2021, and 2023. In addition to his role as mayor, he also served as Mayor Pro Tem after being elected by his fellow council members.
Springfield City Manager Jason Gage praised Mayor McClure's steady leadership and thoughtful approach during challenging times such as the global pandemic. Gage stated that the award is well-deserved and that Springfield is fortunate to have such a dedicated leader at its helm.

Prior to becoming mayor, McClure held various positions including Chief of Staff and Transition Director for Governor Matt Blunt and Associate General Manager - Administration for City Utilities of Springfield. He was also appointed by Governor John Ashcroft as a member and later chairman of the Missouri Public Service Commission. His experience also includes serving as Deputy Director - Administration of the Missouri Department of Economic Development and working as a budget analyst and staff director for the Missouri Senate Appropriations Committee.
Mayor McClure has been an active member of the MML Board of Directors, serving on various committees including chairing the Finance and Administration Committee. He retired from Missouri State University in July 2015, where he held the position of Vice President for Administrative and Information Services.
Born and raised in Springfield, Mayor McClure comes from a long line of Springfield residents. He has two grown daughters, two grandsons, and two granddaughters. With his deep roots in the community and his dedication to public service, Mayor McClure continues to make a positive impact on the city of Springfield.
