Springfield ~ Springfield-Greene County Health (SGCHD) has recently announced the launch of a new website, Mental Health 417, which aims to strengthen the community's focus on mental health and suicide prevention. The website, which was first launched in 2023, provides easy and comprehensive access to resources for individuals seeking support on their mental health journey.

According to Health Director Katie Towns, mental health continues to be a top concern in the community. With the new tools and resources available on Mental Health 417, SGCHD hopes to provide a place where people can find what they need at any stage of their mental health journey.

Mental Health 417 is designed to help individuals become authors of their own mental health story by providing them with the necessary resources and support. The website features an event calendar, a blog for personal stories and expert perspectives, and a treatment finder that allows users to filter their search based on specific needs.

The creation of Mental Health 417 and its new brand identity were made possible through a partnership with Revel Advertising using funds from Community Foundation of the Ozarks' Advancing Mental Wellness grant program. With this new brand and support from partners, SGCHD envisions a community where no one feels alone in their mental health story because they know where to turn for help.

The launch of Mental Health 417 coincides with Suicide Prevention Month in September. In Springfield, rates of suicide mortality are higher than the state average, and there are also high rates of suicidal ideation within the community. To address this issue, campaigns like "Hey man, you good?" have been implemented alongside events such as One Step to Save a Life on September 6th at Park Central Square.

Other upcoming events include NAMI NEON Night Run/Walk on September 13th at Rutledge Wilson Farm Park, Run Through the Darkness on September 20th at Branson Landing, and Greene County Out of the Darkness Walk on September 27th at Battlefield City Park. These events aim to reduce suicide rates and break the stigma surrounding mental health.

The Health Department PIO Team can be contacted for media inquiries at 417-380-2556 or via email. SGCHD's mission is to help all people live longer, healthier, and happier lives. For more information, visit their website at health.springfieldmo.gov or follow them on Facebook and Twitter.
