Springfield, Mo. ~ At 8:23 a.m. on December 19, officers from the Springfield Police Department were called to the scene of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Grand Avenue and West Bypass. According to reports, 86-year-old Mary Peterson from Willard was driving a 2022 Chevrolet Malibu southbound on West Bypass when she entered the turning lane to go east on Grand. As she made the turn, her vehicle was struck by 22-year-old Victor Bowers from Springfield, who was driving northbound on West Bypass in a 2007 Dodge Caliber.

Both Bowers and his passenger were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. However, Peterson sustained life-threatening injuries and was also transported to the hospital where she later passed away. Her family has been notified of her death.
The Springfield Police Department is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and is asking anyone with information to come forward. They can contact the department at 417-864-1810 or leave an anonymous tip at 417-869-TIPS.
This tragic incident marks Springfield's 24th fatal motor vehicle crash of the year. The community is urged to drive safely and follow all traffic laws to prevent further accidents like this one.
