~ Springfield, MO- The Galloway Street Widening Project is nearing its completion as the first round of asphalt paving is currently underway on Galloway Street between Luster and Lone Pine avenues. This marks the final steps towards the completion of the project, which has been in progress since October 2024.

Contractor Hartman and Company is working diligently to finish the remaining tasks, including cleanup work and sod installation. They anticipate reopening Galloway Street to two-way traffic by mid-September. However, there will be a two-week closure of Lone Pine Avenue north of the Galloway roundabout to the Sequiota Park driveway for final improvements.

According to Project Manager Zach Butcher, the last item for construction is the northern roundabout connection at Lone Pine. He explains that they will be completing curb and gutter work, as well as pavement, with hopes of finishing within a two-week window before painting final striping.

The Galloway Street Widening Project was initiated with a goal to improve safety for both traffic and pedestrians along Galloway Street. The project involved widening Galloway Street to three lanes between Luster and Lone Pine avenues, including a new center turn lane. Additionally, traffic calming roundabout intersections were installed at Luster Avenue and Lone Pine Avenue, along with upgraded stormwater infrastructure to improve drainage along Luster Avenue.

The project also aims to provide improved connectivity for all roadway users to Sequiota Park, the Galloway Greenway Trail, and local businesses. This includes a new multi-use path along the north side of Galloway Street and a new sidewalk on the south side.

Butcher expresses his excitement for the project's completion, stating that it has been a significant undertaking with various tasks such as reconstructing two intersections, relocating and upgrading an electrical line, and completely rebuilding Galloway Street for motorists and pedestrians. He looks forward to seeing it all in use very soon.

The project, with an estimated cost of $6.5 million, is funded through the City's ¼-cent Capital Improvement Sales Tax and $1.5 million (30%) from the Governor's Transportation Cost Share Program. The City plans to install landscaping as a separate project and will be seeking community feedback on a Landscaping and Placemaking Plan this fall.

Residents are eager to see the completion of the Galloway Street Widening Project, which will not only improve safety but also enhance connectivity and accessibility for all users. With the final steps underway, it won't be long before Galloway Street is fully reopened and ready for use.
