Ashley Krug, Market Development Coordinator for Springfield Environmental Services, expressed her excitement for the upcoming event, stating that "America Recycles Day is a great way to thank our community's dedicated recyclers." She also emphasized the importance of recycling in conserving landfill space for future generations.
Springfield's recycling drop-off centers play a crucial role in diverting millions of pounds of material from the landfill each year. In fact, last year alone, residents made over 390,000 visits to the City's three main recycling centers as well as the Household Chemical Collection Center.
Together, these facilities helped divert an estimated 5.4 million pounds of recyclable materials from the landfill. The City's recycling program accepts a wide variety of materials including paper, cardboard, plastics, metals, glass, yardwaste, food waste and household chemical products for safe disposal or reuse.
