Springfield, Mo. ~ Springfield Police Department Homicide Unit Investigates Murder of 77-Year-Old Woman
The Springfield Police Department Homicide Unit is currently investigating the murder of 77-year-old Lois Jones, which occurred on December 25, 2024. The case has been presented to the Greene County Prosecutor's Office for further review.
According to authorities, Jones was found deceased inside her residence at 2307 N. Park Ave. after officers responded to a call about a possibly deceased person at 3:10 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered Jones with visible injuries consistent with assault. Her family has been notified of her passing.
After conducting an investigation, Springfield Police Department Homicide Detectives identified Robert Collins, 63, as the suspect in the case. Collins, who is also from Springfield, has been charged with first degree murder and attempted arson in the second degree. He is currently being held at the Greene County Jail without bond.

However, the Greene County Prosecutor's Office has cautioned that these charges are merely allegations and that Collins is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
This marks Springfield's 12th homicide investigation of the year and Jones is the 14th victim in 2024. Detectives are still actively investigating and are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
