Springfield, Mo. ~ Springfield Police Department Homicide Unit Investigates Murder of David Franklin

The Springfield Police Department Homicide Unit is currently investigating the murder of 23-year-old David Franklin, which occurred on January 1, 2025. The case has been presented to the Greene County Prosecutor's Office (GCPO) for a review of potential charges.

According to authorities, at approximately 2:10 a.m., Springfield police officers responded to a report of a shooting at 1919 W. Bennett Street. Upon arrival, they found Franklin with a gunshot wound. Despite efforts to save him, Franklin succumbed to his injuries. His family has been notified of his death.

22-year-old Marquese Gaten, also from Springfield, was later arrested in connection with the incident. He has been charged with stealing and tampering with evidence and is currently being held at the Greene County Jail without bond.

As the investigation progresses, updates will be provided to the GCPO for consideration of additional charges in the future. However, the GCPO cautions that the charges against Gaten are merely allegations and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
