~ Springfield Police Department (SPD) has made a significant breakthrough in their investigation of recent property crimes in the area. On April 24, 2019, formal charges were filed against two suspects believed to be involved in multiple property crimes.
According to Property Crime Detectives with SPD, they began to notice a pattern in the crimes being reported over the past few weeks. The suspects were allegedly using a red Chevrolet Cruze, which was captured on surveillance cameras at targeted locations.
Further investigation revealed that the same Chevrolet Cruze had been reported stolen on March 5, 2019, from an apartment complex in the 2800 block of S. Fort. The license plate displayed on the car during criminal activity was also reported stolen on March 23, 2019, from a vehicle near Sunshine and Campbell intersection.

The suspects were linked to various property crimes including residential and commercial burglaries, fraudulent use of a credit device, stealing, and tampering with vehicles. This information was shared with SPD patrol officers who were able to locate the car parked at a residence in the 1700 block of W. Sunshine.
A search warrant was obtained for the residence and evidence was seized. As a result, two individuals were arrested - Daria Morris and Paul Martin. Morris has been officially charged with First Degree Tampering while Martin faces charges of First Degree Tampering and Receiving Stolen Property.
SPD has stated that additional charges may be forthcoming as their investigation continues. The department is urging anyone with information related to these crimes or any other suspicious activity involving these suspects to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
This successful bust is a testament to the hard work and dedication of SPD's Property Crime Detectives and patrol officers. Their efforts have resulted in bringing these alleged criminals to justice and making Springfield a safer place for its residents.
