Springfield, Mo. ~ On the evening of February 3, 2025, a tragic motor vehicle crash occurred in Springfield, Missouri. At approximately 7:33 p.m., officers from the Springfield Police Department were called to the intersection of Campbell and Normal Streets. The crash involved a van, a bicyclist, and a motorcycle.

According to reports, 65-year-old Herbert Lafferty Jr. was driving a tan 2007 Ford Freestyle northbound on Campbell Avenue when he struck 30-year-old Qiping Ran, who was stopped in the roadway on a bicycle. The impact caused Ran's bicycle to cross into the southbound lane where it was then hit by a motorcyclist riding a 2010 Honda CBR 1000. Fortunately, the motorcyclist did not sustain any injuries.

Ran was immediately transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and sadly passed away on February 4, 2025. The victim's family has been notified of their loss.

At this time, there is no evidence to suggest that impairment or speed played a role in the crash. However, authorities are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
