Springfield, Mo. ~ Springfield residents have the opportunity to gain an inside perspective on the Springfield Police Department's practices and policies through the 2024 Citizens Police Academy. The program, which will begin in August, is now accepting applications from interested citizens.
The academy's curriculum covers a wide range of topics, including police policies, organizational structure, investigative processes, and policing tactics. Participants will receive 30 hours of instruction over a period of 10 weeks, with classes held every Tuesday starting on August 6.

The main goal of the academy is to provide citizens with a better understanding of how the police department operates and to offer an inside look at the challenges faced by officers while serving the community. Interested individuals must submit their applications online by July 15, 2024, at 5 p.m. Late applications will not be considered.
To be eligible for the program, applicants must be at least 18 years old and residents of Springfield. They must also pass a basic background investigation.
