(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ Columbia Police have made an arrest in connection to the shooting death of 20-year-old William Riechers on March 4. Landen Ladaren Jackson, 24, of Columbia, was taken into custody on March 5 and is facing charges of second-degree murder, armed criminal action, unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful use of a weapon.
According to authorities, Jackson was involved in the incident that took place in the area of Allen and Bryant streets. The Columbia Police Department responded to a call about shots fired at approximately 3:48 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found Riechers with a gunshot wound and immediately provided medical assistance. However, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

In addition to Jackson's arrest, Damarius Kavanaugh, 19, of Columbia, was also taken into custody on March 5 for his involvement in the homicide.
The investigation is still ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact the Columbia Police Department or CrimeStoppers. Tips can be provided anonymously and may be eligible for a cash reward up to $2,500 if they lead to an arrest.
This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of gun violence. Missouri statutes such as 565.021 (murder in the second degree), 571.015 (armed criminal action), 571.070 (unlawful possession of a firearm), and 571.030 (unlawful use of a weapon) are in place to hold individuals accountable for their actions involving firearms.
