~ Residents of Springfield have until May 31 to take advantage of the Clean Green Springfield litter cleanup and beautification initiative, which offers no-cost disposal of televisions and mattresses.

The initiative was created in response to the problem of items such as mattresses, televisions and tires being dumped in alleyways and along Springfield streets. Not only do these items take up space in landfills, but they also pose a threat to the environment if not properly disposed of.

The City has partnered with the Computer Recycling Center to provide no-cost television recycling of up to 200 TVs through Clean Green Springfield. TV's accepted include CRT, LED, Plasma, Big Screen, Console and LCD TVs. Residents can take advantage of this offer at the Computer Recycling Center located at 528 N. Prince Lane during regular business hours from 10 a.m.- 5 p.m., Monday – Saturday during the month of May (closed Memorial Day - 5/29). There is a limit of one no-cost TV recycling per residential household available on a first-come first-served basis.

Clean Green Springfield is also offering no-cost mattress recycling for up to 500 mattresses at three current mattress recycling sites: Franklin Avenue Recycling Center (731 N. Franklin Ave.), Lone Pine Avenue Recycling Center (320 S. Lone Pine Ave.) and Noble Hill Sanitary Landfill (3545 W. Farm Road 34). Residents can take advantage of this offer during regular business hours from 8 a.m.- 4:30 p.m., Tuesday - Saturday at each location (closed Memorial Day - 5/29). There is a limit of four pieces per residential household with mattresses accepted as long as they are clean, dry and free of infestation.

Collection and processing for these mattresses will be provided via a contract with BedHead Mattress Recycling who will transport them to their facility in Billings where they will be deconstructed before components are processed, shipped and ultimately become raw materials utilized by a number of manufacturers in products such as construction materials, wood chip mulch and more.
