List of Columbia roads scheduled for pavement maintenance beginning July 8

(COLUMBIA, MO) - City of Columbia Public Works street engineers have scheduled pavement maintenance for selected roads beginning July 8. This list is based on a comprehensive assessment of road conditions across the City to identify the most appropriate treatment for each street.

The upcoming maintenance will include three primary methods: mill and overlay, chip sealing and the application of an asphalt rejuvenation treatment.

Mill and Overlay

Mill and overlay involves milling off the top layer of pavement and then applying a new layer of asphalt. This process creates a smooth driving surface and extends the road's life by 6 to 20 years.

Capital Paving, contractors for the City of Columbia Public Works department, will perform mill and overlay work on the streets listed below. Milling work is expected to begin at 7 a.m. Monday, July 8, and will continue on weekdays throughout the month until completed, weather permitting.

Group 1 (these streets are expected to be milled the week of July 8 and have asphalt overlaid the week of July 15)
  • Braemore Road from West Broadway to a point 100 feet north of Highland Drive
  • Braemore Road from 50 feet south of Highland Drive to Loch Lane
  • Skye Wynd from Braemore Road to the end of the street
  • Thistledown Drive from West Broadway to Highland Drive
  • Wee Wynd from Thistledown Drive to the end of the street
  • Dundee Drive from West Broadway to Highland Drive
  • Heather Lane from West Broadway to Highland Drive
  • Heather Lane from Highland Drive to Braemore Road
  • Balow Wynd from Highland Drive to the end of the street
  • Highland Drive from West Broadway to a point 100 feet east of Braemore Road
  • Loch Lane from Highland Drive to Concordia Drive
  • Concordia Drive from Bourn Avenue to Martin Drive
  • Mission Court from Concordia Drive to the end of the street
  • Hulen Drive from West Rollins Road to Summit Road
  • Luan Court from Hulen Drive to the end of the street
The following streets will have mill and overlay treatment performed once the initial grouping of streets is completed. Residents will continue to be notified of streets slated for treatment by orange roadside "no parking" signs.

  • Barberry Avenue from Hibiscus Drive to Mayberry Drive
  • Locust Street from Hitt Street to South Sixth Street
  • Paquin Street from South College Avenue to Hitt Street
  • Waugh Street from Locust Street to Paquin Street
  • Lyon Street from North Eighth Street to North Fifth Street
  • Circus Avenue from Rogers Street to the south end (the parking lot)
  • Hickman Avenue from North Eighth Street to North Fifth Street
  • Alton Avenue from North Eighth Street to North Seventh Street
  • Crestmere Avenue from South Garth Avenue to East Parkway Drive
  • Westmount Avenue from West Lathrop Road to the south end of the street
  • Wayne Road from South Providence Road to East Brandon Road
  • Parkade Boulevard from Business Loop 70 West to McBaine Avenue
  • East Sexton Road from North Garth Avenue to North Providence Road
  • West Sexton Road from Business Loop 70 West to McBaine Avenue
  • Mikel Street from West Sexton Road to Orange Street
  • Florence Avenue from West Worley Street to Donnely Avenue

  • North Keene Street from the approach to the roundabout at I-70 Drive SE to the Highway WW (East Broadway) signal
  • Starlight Drive from the north end of the street to the south end of the street
  • Lamp Lane from Starlight Drive to Boyd Lane
  • Lightview Drive from North end of the street to South end of the street
  • Boyd Lane from Rice Road to a point 70 feet north of Ria Street
  • Highridge Drive from Ridgemont to Mills Drive
  • Ridgemont from the east end of the new bridge concrete to Highridge Circle
  • Highridge Circle, entire length of the street
  • Ridgemont Court from Highridge Drive to the end of the street
  • Shannon Place from Highridge Drive to Mills Drive
Chip sealing

Chip sealing is another method of maintaining the condition of pavement. This process involves spraying a thin film of heated asphalt liquid on a road's surface, followed by the placement of small stone "chips" or stones. Rollers then pass over the chips to compact and adhere them to the existing asphalt. The excess stone is swept from the surface after a period of time to allow the chips to settle.

Chip seal work will be performed by City of Columbia Public Works Street division crews and is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. Monday, July 8. Chip seal operations will continue daily, typically taking place Monday through Thursday until completed, weather permitting.

  • Bethel Street from Dustin Drive to East Old Plank Road
  • Lake Valley Lane from West Southampton Drive to the south end of the street
  • West Old Plank Road from Bethel Street to West Route K
  • East Sugar Grove Road from the west end of the street to the east City limit line
Asphalt rejuvenation

Reclamite is a product that can rejuvenate the protective qualities of asphalt lost through oxidation caused by precipitation, sunlight and other factors. Reclamite prevents water, which is the biggest threat to roadways, from penetrating into the pavement.

CAM LLC, contractors for the City of Columbia Public Works department, will perform asphalt rejuvenation work using Reclamite on the streets listed below. Work is expected to start at 7 a.m. Monday, July 8, and will continue on weekdays throughout the month until completed, weather permitting.

Orange "no parking" signs will be staked along all streets scheduled for any type of pavement maintenance at least 24 hours before work begins. Drivers, please avoid parking on these streets during the working hours and dates specified on the signs.
