~ The City of Kansas City and the Parks and Recreation Department are inviting the public to a renaming ceremony of Brush Creek Community Center to the Mary Williams-Neal Community Center. The new name honors the life of Commissioner Williams-Neal, who sadly passed away in March.

The Kansas City Parks Board of Commissioners unanimously voted in July to approve the name change. Williams-Neal was appointed as a Parks Board Commissioner by Mayor Quinton Lucas in 2019 and served until her passing. She was also elected as a Third District City Councilwoman in 1995 and served until 2003.

During her time as a council member, many of her colleagues admired her "teamwork" attitude and she was a strong advocate for her constituents. Former Mayor and current Congressman Emmanuel Cleaver II and former Mayor Kay Barnes both respected Williams-Neal for her contributions to the city and district.

The renaming ceremony will take place on December 1st at 1 p.m., located at 3801 Emanuel Cleaver II Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64130. All are welcome to attend this event honoring the legacy of Mary Williams-Neal.
