~ On Thursday, March 2, the City of Kansas City, Missouri amended Section 68-393 of its Code of Ordinances to change the process for taxpayers to request a refund of the wage earner refund tax for tax year 2022.
In order to properly request a refund, taxpayers must submit Form RD109 and RD109NR (if applicable), along with sufficient documentation to show that they are entitled to a refund. All documents must be submitted by the federal income tax deadline, which is April 18, 2023 this year. Requests not timely submitted will be denied as required by the amended ordinance.

Taxpayers may file an extension request with the City of Kansas City in order to receive an additional six months to file their return. However, they must still comply with the City's Municipal Code of Ordinances in order for their request to be considered valid.
The amendment is intended to ensure that taxpayers are able to receive their refunds in a timely manner and that all requests are properly documented and processed.
