(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ After 20 years of dedicated service to the City of Columbia, Tim Teddy, director of the Community Development department, will be retiring on July 7. Teddy first joined the City in 2005 as the Planning and Development director before taking on his current role as Community Development director in 2011.

During his time with the City, Teddy has been instrumental in shaping long-term planning efforts and overseeing various functions within the Community Development department. This includes managing planning, zoning, permitting, inspections, and code enforcement to ensure safe buildings and a healthy environment for the community.

The Community Development department is divided into two primary divisions: Building and Site Development and Planning. The former is responsible for reviewing construction plans, issuing permits, conducting inspections, and enforcing ordinances related to new construction. It also oversees the updating of construction codes, licensing of contractors and trades, and collects fees for new construction. On the other hand, the Planning division focuses on reviewing development requests such as annexation, zoning, and subdivisions. It also plays a crucial role in long-term transportation system development and historic preservation.
