David Cameron selected as Springfield, Missouri City Manager

~ Springfield, MO - After an extensive search and interview process, David Cameron has been selected as the 14th City Manager for the city of Springfield. Pending a public City Council vote later this month, Cameron will officially take on the role and begin his duties on July 7.

Cameron brings with him over 30 years of experience in local government, having most recently served as the City Administrator for the City of Republic since July 2016. A native of Miller, Missouri, Cameron returned to the area after spending 16 years with the City of Siloam Springs, Arkansas where he also served as City Administrator. He holds a bachelor's degree in organizational management from John Brown University in Siloam Springs.

Throughout his career, Cameron has focused on process improvements, building relationships between government and the development community, infrastructure deployment, economic development, and environmental compliance. Under his leadership in Republic, over $1.4 billion in capital investments have been delivered and 3,000 new jobs have been created. He also played a key role in developing projects such as the Garton Business Park and bringing an Amazon Fulfillment Center to the city. In Siloam Springs, he successfully negotiated the sale of a city-owned hospital which resulted in a $10.6 million benefit to the community.

Mayor Jeff Schrag expressed his confidence in Cameron's abilities stating that "with over 30 years in local government...[he] is the right person for our community at a time when Springfield is on the rise." Schrag also noted that he is excited to have Cameron join their leadership team and help build upon Springfield's strong foundation.

Known for his "disruptive leadership" style, Cameron has a track record of reducing bureaucracy and enhancing service delivery within city operations. He has implemented systems that streamline processes resulting in faster turnaround times for city permits and fostering a culture of innovation within city departments.

In response to his selection as City Manager, Cameron stated, "I am very excited and honored to join the City of Springfield as its next City Manager...the opportunity to continue serving the region I've always loved is truly special." He also expressed his gratitude for his time in Republic and his excitement to contribute to the growth and success of Springfield.

Cameron is an active member of Second Baptist Church and enjoys spending time outdoors in the Ozarks. He has three adult children who all work in healthcare and is a proud grandfather. He currently has one granddaughter with another on the way in June.

The City Council will take a formal vote on Cameron's employment contract during an upcoming regular council meeting. The first reading of the bill will take place on Monday, May 19, with the vote expected on May 27. Cameron's salary will be $350,000.
