(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ Columbia Police have made an arrest in connection with an assault that occurred on Forum Boulevard in November. Marquise Mathis, 44, of Columbia was taken into custody on Jan. 2 and is facing charges of second-degree assault, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon.
The incident took place on Nov. 2 at approximately 10 a.m. when officers responded to reports of an assault and shots fired in the 3900 block of Forum Boulevard. Upon arrival, they discovered that an argument had taken place between two adult men, resulting in one man being assaulted and sustaining non-life-threatening injuries.
Although gunfire was heard during the altercation, no injuries were reported from the shots fired. The suspect fled the scene before police arrived. Through their investigation, authorities were able to identify Mathis as the suspect. Evidence suggests that this was a targeted incident.

The Columbia Police Department would like to thank the Boone County Sheriff's Office for their assistance in making this arrest possible. The case is still under investigation and anyone with information is urged to contact the Columbia Police Department at 573-874-7652 or CrimeStoppers at 573-875-8477 to provide information anonymously.
If the information provided leads to an arrest, individuals may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,500 through CrimeStoppers. The case number for this incident is 2024-009640.
This arrest comes after a previous press release issued by the Columbia Police Department on Dec. 3 requesting public assistance in identifying the suspect involved in this incident. The department encourages community members to continue reporting any suspicious activity or providing information that may aid in solving crimes within their neighborhoods.
