The Columbia Fire Department was dispatched to 1030 Hitt Street, NextGen Precision Health Institute at 10:43am on Tuesday, September 14, 2021.  Dispatch information included a report of smoke in the basement.

The first unit arrived less than three minutes later and reported a multi-storey commercial building under construction with nothing showing.  Crews proceeded to the basement where they reported a light haze and an electrical odor.

Further investigation revealed that a piece of machinery had malfunctioned and there was no fire.  Fire crews used electric fans to remove smoke from the building.  There were no reported injuries.

Eight units from the Columbia Fire Department responded to this call.
