(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ COLUMBIA, MO - The City of Columbia Public Works department has announced that a second informal open house meeting will be held to discuss the Garth Avenue improvement project. The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 25 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Parkade Baptist Church's Fellowship Hall located at 2102 N. Garth Ave.

The purpose of this meeting is to share preliminary plans for the project, which aims to improve the overall condition of Garth Avenue. The proposed improvements include reconstruction of pavement, curbs and existing sidewalk sections along Garth Avenue from Texas Avenue to Thurman Street. Additionally, a new sidewalk will be constructed on the east side of Garth Avenue to fill in gaps between Texas Avenue and Leslie Lane, as well as between Craig Street and Thurman Street. The entire project area will also receive a new asphalt overlay.

According to city officials, construction is set to begin in the summer of 2026. In order to provide residents with an opportunity to learn more about the project and provide feedback, the meeting will follow an open house format. Attendees can view displays of the proposed improvements at their own pace and city engineering staff will be available to answer any questions.

For those unable to attend in person, preliminary plans for the project are available online at BeHeard.CoMo.gov/Garth-Avenue-improvement where comments can also be submitted. The City encourages all members of the public to attend any open meetings regarding this project.
