(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ COLUMBIA, MO - On Wednesday, June 11, the Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services (PHHS) will be teaming up with the Boone County Overdose Response Coalition to host a SAVE-A-LIFE naloxone education and distribution event. The event will take place at the Blue Note located at 17 N. 9th St. from 12 to 1 p.m. and requires no registration.
The purpose of this event is to educate members of the community on how they can help prevent fentanyl overdose deaths through the use of naloxone, also known as NarcanĀ®. This drug has the ability to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.
Attendees will have the opportunity to receive both formal and informal training on recognizing the signs of an opioid overdose and how to access and use naloxone nasal spray. For those who are unable to attend the formal presentation, PHHS staff will be available after the event to provide information and brief training.

Funding for this event is made possible by contract DH240054280 between PHHS and the State of Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. Additionally, thanks to a continued partnership between PHHS and the Missouri Institute for Mental Health (MIMH), NARCANĀ® will be available at no cost for participants.
The public is welcome to attend this free event as part of the monthly SAVE-A-LIFE series. Accommodations for individuals with disabilities can be made by calling 573.874.CITY (2489) or emailing a designated email address in advance.
This event serves as an important step in addressing opioid overdoses in Boone County and promoting awareness about naloxone as a life-saving tool. The community is encouraged to attend and learn more about how they can play a role in preventing these tragedies from occurring.
