(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ COLUMBIA, MO - In an effort to combat the rising opioid crisis, Friendship Missionary Baptist Church will be hosting a SAVE-A-LIFE event in partnership with the Boone County Overdose Response Coalition and Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services (PHHS). The event will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 14 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the church located at 1701 Smiley Lane.
The main focus of the event will be to educate and distribute naloxone, also known as Narcan®, a medication that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. PHHS staff will be present to provide information and brief training for individuals who are unable to attend the formal presentation. This training will cover how to recognize the signs of an opioid overdose and how to properly use and access naloxone nasal spray.

SAVE-A-LIFE is a monthly series of free events that aim to educate members of the community on how they can help prevent opioid overdose deaths through the use of naloxone nasal spray. No registration is necessary for this event and all attendees will have access to a personal supply of naloxone.
Funding for this event is made possible by contract DH240054280 between PHHS and the State of Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. Additionally, thanks to a continued partnership between PHHS and the Missouri Institute for Mental Health (MIMH), participants will be able to receive NARCAN® at no cost.
