(COLUMBIA, MO) - Beginning Monday, Aug. 8, at 7 a.m., City of Columbia Public Works street crews will be performing repairs to the road on East Southampton Drive at its intersection with the west entrance to MU Health Care and the center entrance to Veterans United. East Southampton Drive will stay open at all times in both directions and no sidewalk closures will be necessary. However, motorists should expect delays when traveling through the area.

The road work is being performed in response to a crack that has formed across all three lanes of East Southampton Drive resulting from concrete expansion due to high temperatures. Crews will be digging up and replacing the roadway in order to repair the crack. The affected concrete will be replaced in sections, providing motorists with passage through the work area at all times.

Traffic control signs and flaggers will be present to assist motorists through work zones as needed. Motorists and pedestrians should drive slowly and use caution when in the work zone and use the alternate entrances to Veterans United and MU Health Care if possible. Message boards are being installed on East Southampton Drive on Aug. 4 to inform motorists of the expected delays next week.

All maintenance is scheduled to be completed by Wednesday, Aug. 10, at 5 p.m., weather permitting.
