(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ The City of Columbia's Department of Housing & Neighborhood Services is seeking input from the community on the Rental Unit Conservation Law. A drop-in style public meeting will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 10 from 4-6 p.m. at the Activities and Recreation Center (ARC) located at 1701 W. Ash Street.

The purpose of the meeting is to gather feedback on the City's current practices for inspecting residential rental units. Currently, most rental units are inspected every five years and there are over 28,000 units that meet City code requirements. However, City Council members have expressed interest in increasing the frequency of inspections for rental properties.

In addition to discussing rental unit inspections, the meeting will also provide information on Neighborhood Services' efforts to enforce other codes such as trash and debris, tall grass and weeds, and nuisance vehicles.

For those unable to attend the meeting, feedback can also be provided through an online survey available at BeHeard.CoMo.gov until Feb. 20. The website also offers more details about the City's inspection program and potential changes that could be made. The Department of Housing & Neighborhood Services encourages all members of the community to participate in this important discussion about rental unit conservation in Columbia.
