(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ Columbia residents are being advised to plan for potential delays and congestion this weekend as roadwork and closures may impact travel. The Boone County Fair, which is set to take place from July 16-20 at the Northeast Regional Park, is expected to draw large crowds and add to the traffic in the area.

According to a press release from the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), Highway 63 will be reduced to one lane due to an ongoing construction project during the duration of the fair. In addition, Brown School Road will be blocked east of the Highway 63 exit for eastbound traffic on July 19 and 20 from 5-8 p.m. This is due to nighttime events at the fair, and drivers are advised to use Prathersville Road as an alternate route. Message boards will also be in place to guide drivers.

Fair attendees are strongly encouraged to consider alternative routes when traveling to the park, such as using Brown Station Road and Starke Avenue. These routes may help alleviate some of the expected congestion in the area.

In addition, this weekend marks the start of the annual Show-Me State Games in Columbia. The games will take place at various facilities throughout the community and are expected to bring in thousands of visitors from all over Missouri.

The city would like to thank drivers for their patience and understanding as they navigate through potential delays and increased traffic this weekend. By using caution and considering alternative routes when possible, residents can help make their travels smoother for themselves and others.
