(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ Columbia Police responded to a domestic disturbance with a weapon on the evening of February 19th in the 3900 block of Clark Lane. Upon arrival, officers encountered 55-year-old Robert E. Lee standing in the doorway of the residence. Lee then retrieved a firearm and pointed it at the officers, prompting them to call for backup.

The situation escalated as Lee barricaded himself inside the residence and a female inside was able to safely leave. Multiple resources were called to the scene, including the Department's Crisis Negotiation Team, SWAT Team, and paramedics. Crisis negotiators attempted to persuade Lee to exit the residence without any weapons.

At approximately 11:05 p.m., officers heard a single gunshot from inside the dwelling. Despite several attempts to make contact with Lee, they were unsuccessful and made entry into the residence. Inside, they found Lee deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The next of kin has been notified.

The Columbia Police Department has stated that this is an ongoing investigation and is asking anyone with information about this incident to come forward.
