(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ Columbia Police responded to reports of shots fired at Cosmopolitan Park on the evening of April 12. Upon arrival at the park, located in the 1600 block of Business Loop 70 West, officers discovered a man and a woman with gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment, with the man listed in critical but stable condition and the woman in serious condition.
According to initial information gathered by investigators, a large gathering was taking place at the park involving members of fraternities and sororities from Columbia and Jefferson City. The event, which had not obtained proper shelter reservations through the Columbia Parks and Recreation Department, was still ongoing despite the park's closing time of midnight.

At this time, there is no suspect in custody as police detectives continue to actively investigate the shooting. The Columbia Police Department has expressed gratitude for the assistance provided by other law enforcement agencies during this incident, including the Missouri State Highway Patrol, University of Missouri Police Department, Boone County Sheriff's Office, and Ashland Police Department.
The investigation into this incident is ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact the Columbia Police Department at 573.874.7652.
