(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ Columbia, MO - On the evening of January 29th, a multi-vehicle collision occurred on the eastbound lanes of I-70 at the Range Line Street exit. According to reports from the Columbia Police Department, the incident took place around 7:30 p.m.

The collision involved eight vehicles and was caused by an eastbound tractor-trailer hitting another tractor-trailer that had slowed down due to traffic congestion. The impact caused the first tractor-trailer to hit the median barrier and then collide with six other vehicles that were also slowing down in heavy traffic. Fortunately, all occupants were able to safely exit their vehicles.

However, three of the vehicles involved in the accident caught fire. The Columbia Fire Department responded quickly and was able to extinguish the fires. The driver and passenger of the fifth vehicle were transported to a local hospital for minor injuries while the driver of the first vehicle sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

As a result of the collision, the eastbound lanes of I-70 between Stadium Boulevard and Range Line Street exits were closed for approximately three hours. The Columbia Police Department is currently conducting an investigation into this incident and is asking anyone with information to come forward. In addition, CrimeStoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $2,500 for any information that leads to an arrest in this case (2025-000802). The investigation is ongoing and more details will be released as they become available.
