(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ Columbia Police Department Assists in Apprehending Suspect in Connection with Homicide
On the evening of February 1st, the Columbia Police Department received a request for assistance from the Moberly Police Department in locating and apprehending a suspect connected to a homicide in Moberly, Missouri. The Columbia Police Department's Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) and Crisis Negotiation Teams (CNT) responded to the call and arrived at the 1500 block of Raleigh Drive.
Upon arrival at around 9 p.m., the SWAT and CNT teams determined that the suspect was inside a residence on Raleigh Drive. It was also discovered that an adult female and multiple juveniles were present inside the residence. The CNT team established phone contact with the female, who expressed that she was in danger.
At approximately 10 p.m., the suspect emerged from the residence armed with a knife and refused to comply with officers' commands to drop the weapon. In an attempt to apprehend the suspect, officers deployed less-lethal impact munitions and a K-9 unit, but these measures were unsuccessful.

Due to the continued threat posed by the suspect towards both officers and those inside the residence, multiple officers fired their weapons, fatally striking the suspect. Medical aid was immediately provided, but unfortunately, the suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene.
During this incident, one Columbia Police officer sustained injuries from the K-9 unit and is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital. As per standard protocol, both internal affairs unit of Columbia Police Department will review this incident for compliance with internal policy.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control has been requested to investigate this officer-involved shooting. Their personnel arrived at the scene shortly after and have taken control of it. The identity of the deceased is being withheld until next of kin has been notified.
This investigation remains ongoing under the direction of Missouri State Highway Patrol, and any further information will be released at their discretion. Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact the Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control at 573.751.1000 or CrimeStoppers at 573.875.8477 to provide information anonymously. A cash reward of up to $2,500 may be given for information leading to an arrest.
