(COLUMBIA, MO) - Columbia Police have arrested Ryan David Osterberger, 31, of Columbia, for first-degree assault, first-degree burglary, armed criminal action, unlawful possession of a firearm, and resisting arrest for a felony.

On June 28 at approximately 5:45 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 3800 block of Rock Quarry Road in reference to a report of shots fired.

Officers learned that a male later identified as Osterberger had entered an unlocked home and was confronted by a resident who pursued Osterberger after he had exited.

It was reported that Osterberger attempted to hit the resident with a vehicle and that the resident then fired a shot at the vehicle.

Patrol officers discovered the vehicle while searching the area and found that Osterberger had fled on foot. The vehicle was also found to have sustained damage from the gunshot.

K9 officers from the Boone County Sheriff's Office assisted in trying to locate Osterberger. The Columbia Police drone team also responded to provide assistance to officers who were conducting the search on foot.

While officers were initially unable to locate Osterberger, further investigation led to his being arrested at 12:31 a.m., June 29.

The investigation is ongoing and more information may become available at a later time.
